About

Hi, I’m Dave Holt

Dave Holt

I’ve been taking apart washers, prying open dryers, and figuring out why refrigerators sound like a jet engine since I was a teenager who couldn’t leave a broken appliance alone. What started as fixing my own stuff — and then the neighbor’s, and then a friend of a friend’s — turned into 18 years of doing it for anyone who’d let me, purely because I genuinely like figuring out why things break. Fix Appliance Fast is where I share what all that tinkering taught me, straight from the garage.

Why I Started This Site

Here’s the honest truth: most appliance manuals are useless when something actually goes wrong. They’ll tell you what buttons do what, but they won’t tell you why your dishwasher smells like burnt rubber, why your fridge is freezing your lettuce solid, or what that clicking noise from your dryer really means. I spent years watching people — friends, family, strangers on forums — try to figure things out on their own and get stuck, because the right information just wasn’t out there in plain English.

I started Fix Appliance Fast to change that. I wanted a place where a homeowner could type in a symptom, find a real answer, and actually fix the problem — without waiting days for a technician or spending money they didn’t need to spend.

What You’ll Find Here

This site covers appliance repair, troubleshooting, routine maintenance, and DIY fixes for the machines you use every day — refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, microwaves, and more. Whether you’re dealing with an error code that makes no sense, an appliance that’s making a noise it never made before, or just trying to keep things running longer, I’ve got you covered. I break everything down in plain language, step by step, the way I’d explain it to a neighbor standing right in front of me.

My Approach to Recommendations

I don’t recommend tools, parts, or products because someone paid me to. I recommend them because I’ve used them — on my own appliances and on projects for friends and family. When I suggest a specific multimeter, a replacement part, or a maintenance product, it’s because it’s what I’d actually reach for myself. I’m not interested in steering you wrong. My reputation is built on fixes that actually work, and this site is no different.

A Little About Me

I’m based in the Midwest, where the winters are hard on appliances and people don’t like wasting money — two things that have shaped how I work. When I’m not troubleshooting someone’s broken refrigerator, I’m probably in my garage working on small engines or watching my kids’ weekend soccer games. I got into this because I genuinely like fixing things and I like helping people. That hasn’t changed after 18 years, and it’s the reason I keep writing here.

Thanks for being here. I hope something on this site saves you time, money, and a whole lot of frustration.
